Dinner & Auction an Inspiring Success!

September 30, 2010

Thanks to all of you who supported our annual dinner and auction at Rolling Road Country Club, our primary fundraiser of the year. Thanks to the generous donations of the community and auction committee volunteers, we were able to raise over $41,000 this year, far and away our most successful event! These funds will continue to support the organization in providing shelter and nourishment–both physical and spiritual–to our clients who need a helping hand to get back on their feet.

On behalf of Lazarus Caucus and our Auction Committee, I thank all of you and wish you God’s blessing.

Lazarus also Supports Night of Peace Family Shelter

September 17, 2010

The Lazarus Caucus is now extending support to The Night of Peace Family Shelter, Inc. a faith community resource serving homeless families in Baltimore County, Maryland.

The Night of Peace provides emergency shelter and transition planning for homeless families for up to four months as they seek to reorganize their lives. They are Christian churches in mission together who take to heart the powerful message of Isaiah 58…

“Share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house.”

Lazarus is providing diapers, food support and volunteers. If interested in making a donation or volunteering, you can access their website from ours.

Birthday Bash at Westside Shelter

August 8, 2010

Hello All!

Last evening I had the pleasure of participating in the Westside Birthday Bash – what a hoot! Angie McLean, Theresa Donnelly and Kim brought cake and ice cream.  I just showed up and joined the fun.  We sang happy birthday and had a great time with guests.  They loved having us there –Chris told jokes; Dale and Ron couldn’t stop smiling and Travis, the only guest with an August birthday, graciously accepted a prank gift from his fellow guests (gold colored high heels).  Honestly, Travis looked like he was celebrating with his family.  Guests, staff and bashers all had a great time.

These celebrations are the brainchild of Angie  — to have a birthday bash on the 1st Thursday of every month.  Your are welcome to attend the next one on September 2nd to see if this is something you, your friends, family or parish may want to do in the upcoming months.  I assure you, you will get more out of it than the guests and it means the world to them.   Luke Browning

New Organic Garden

June 17, 2010

People for Rebecca Dongarra initiated the installation of an organic vegetable garden at the Westside Shelter this month. Work on planting and upkeep has been done by their volunteers along with shelter residents.

The goals of the garden are to provide a positive activity for men to perform while at the shelter that will increase their sense of self worth and their perceived ability to accomplish a goal.  Additionally, the garden will provide health and nutritious food for the residents.  The garden will allow residents a way to be supportive and productive members of the community by donating some of the surplus food to local food banks, as well as, selling some produce at local farmer’s markets to raise funds for shelter programs.

Donations to the continued maintenance of the garden are welcome.  Our needs can be found on our Amazon Wish List.

Shelter Flower Garden

June 14, 2010

The residents of the Westside Shelter  in Catonsville take pride in the appearance of their residence just like the other residents of Catonsville.

That is why along with volunteers, they are planting flowers to enhance the curb  appeal of the shelter.
